  • The Department of Transportation requires six additional safety features be built into every school bus which are not found on any other public or private vehicle.

  • School bus drivers log over 4 billion miles behid the wheel each year.

  • There are 50 million children who presently attend public and private schools with yellow school buses transporting half of them every day.

  • According to the National Safety Council in 1996, school buses are: 172 times safer than your family automobile, 8 times safer than railroad passenger trains, 4 times safer than transit or intercity buses, and 8 times safer than scheduled airlines.
